Křivoklát
Křivoklát is one of the oldest and most famous castles of Czech princes and kings.
Established in the 12th century, the castle was several times damaged by fire and multiply reconstructed. In different times it served as a residence, or a hunting lodge, or a brewery, or even as a prison for vicious criminals. Křivoklát reflects history of many centuries. Here you can find a beautiful chapel built in gothic style with subtle ornaments, and altar, which is decorated with sculptures of apostles and figures of angels. The watchtower, which overlooks the castle, impresses with its might, and inside the tower a unique collection of weapons and hunting trophies is displayed.
Art amateurs can enjoy collections of paintings and religious sculptures, and visit the castle library, which contains over 52000 samples. In search of adrenaline buzz one can go down to the castle prison with torture chambers and instruments. But to fully appreciate the atmosphere of the castle you also need to take a walk around beautiful neighborhood.
